Tata Sierra.ev Review: The Boldest EV Tata Has Ever Built

AWD, 504 Nm, a 622-litre boot, and a feature list that never seems to end. Here's why the Sierra.ev is Tata's most complete EV yet.

Tata has already proven it knows how to build EVs that sell. With the Sierra.ev, it’s aiming higher - an electric SUV with genuine AWD, serious performance, and a features list that reads like a luxury car brochure.

Design & Space

The Sierra.ev carries over the striking design of the ICE Sierra, and it’s available in a range of eye-catching colours. Build quality feels solid, and the cabin is genuinely contemporary - there’s a healthy amount of space up front and enough room for five adults to sit comfortably. The 622-litre boot is one of the largest in the segment, so practicality isn’t a compromise here.

Power & Performance

Two battery options are on offer - 63 kWh and 75 kWh - both paired with a rear-mounted motor putting out 235 BHP or 206 BHP respectively. But the real headline is the 75 kWh QWD (Quad Wheel Drive) variant, which adds a 138 BHP motor up front for a combined 504 Nm of torque and a 0-100 km/h sprint of just 5.8 seconds. It’s the only crossover in its segment to offer all-wheel drive, and that alone sets it apart from the Creta Electric, MG Windsor, and Mahindra BE6.

On the road, power delivery is smooth and linear rather than snappy, which makes the Sierra.ev an easy, confident daily driver. Four drive modes - City, Eco, Sport, and Boost - genuinely feel different from each other, and six terrain modes plus adjustable regenerative braking let you tailor the experience to how and where you drive. Straight-line stability at 100 km/h is excellent, body roll on twisty roads is well controlled, and the suspension has been stiffened over the ICE Sierra to handle the extra weight of the drivetrain - the trade-off is a firmer low-speed ride that softens nicely once you’re up to highway speed.

Range & Charging

ARAI-tested MIDC range comes in at 535 km for the 63 kWh RWD, 665 km for the 75 kWh RWD, and 624 km for the 75 kWh QWD. DC fast charging at 120 kW takes the battery from 20-80% in just 26 minutes, and Tata’s optional 7.2 kW AC charger (Rs. 49,000) tops up a full charge overnight.

Features & Safety

This is where the Sierra.ev truly stands out. Auto-park assist with remote parking and summon mode, a 540-degree camera, a triple-screen infotainment setup, a panoramic sunroof with voice control, a head-up display, ventilated seats, reclining rear seats, an air purifier with AQI display, and vehicle-to-load power supply are all on the menu. Safety is equally well covered, with Level 2 ADAS, 6 airbags, hill descent and hill hold assist, and an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System so pedestrians can hear it coming.

The AWD QWD setup is reserved for the top variant alone, and a few cabin materials don’t quite match the segment’s best - small trade-offs for what is otherwise one of the most feature-rich electric SUVs you can buy in India today.

Price

VariantPrice (ex-showroom)
63 kWh RWDRs. 18.79 - 22.79 lakh
75 kWh RWDRs. 22.19 - 24.79 lakh
75 kWh QWD (top variant)Rs. 25.99 lakh

Verdict

If you want the most complete, feature-loaded electric SUV in its class - and the only one with AWD - the Sierra.ev is hard to look past. For most buyers, the 75 kWh RWD strikes the best balance of range and price, while enthusiasts who want the extra grip and performance should stretch for the QWD.
