New BMW 7 Series & i7 Range Launched in India from ₹.95 Crore
BMW's flagship sedan returns with petrol and electric options, including the 680hp i7 M70. Here's what's new, and what it costs.

BMW India has launched the new 7 Series range, with the flagship sedan now available in both petrol and fully electric forms. The line-up spans three variants: the petrol-powered 740 M Sport, the i7 50 xDrive M Sport, and the range-topping i7 M70 xDrive, which becomes the most powerful 7 Series BMW has ever built. Prices start at ₹.95 crore ex-showroom for both the 740 and the i7 50, climbing to ₹.65 crore for the i7 M70. Bookings are open now, with deliveries starting October 2026.
Crystal Face, Triple Powertrain Lineup, and Local Assembly
The new 7 Series gets BMW’s latest luxury-class design language, headlined by the illuminated Iconic Glow Kidney Grille and Individual crystal headlights with diamond-cut glass elements. Adaptive LED headlights with a 600-metre beam range and non-dazzling high-beam assist come as standard. On the powertrain side, the 740 M Sport’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine makes 400hp and 540Nm, good for a 5.4-second 0-100 km/h run and a 250 km/h top speed. The i7 50 xDrive produces 455hp and 660Nm from its electric motors, hitting 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, while its 112.5 kWh battery delivers a best-in-class 728 km WLTP range - a 125 km improvement over the outgoing model. Topping the range, the i7 M70 xDrive puts out a combined 680hp and up to 1,100Nm with Launch Control or Sport Boost engaged, enough for a 3.8-second sprint to 100 km/h, with a WLTP range of 686 km. Fast-charging on a 250 kW DC charger takes the battery from 10-80% in 28 minutes, and BMW is bundling a complimentary 22kW Wallbox charger with installation for home charging.
Notably, the i7 will now be built locally at BMW’s Chennai plant, making India only the second country after Germany to manufacture the model. The i7 M70 xDrive remains a fully imported unit for now.
Executive Lounge Luxury: 31.3-Inch Theatre Screen and Radar Doors
Inside, the new 7 Series centres around BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system, built around BMW Operating System X. This includes BMW Panoramic Vision - a display strip running the full width of the windscreen from A-pillar to A-pillar - alongside a 17.9-inch central display and, for the first time on any BMW, a dedicated 14.6-inch front passenger screen that lets occupants stream content without needing a driver profile; it dims automatically if the driver’s gaze lingers on it. A 3D head-up display rounds off the front-cabin tech.
The rear seat experience is where BMW is clearly positioning this car for chauffeur-driven buyers. Executive Lounge seating allows reclining to a 43-degree torso angle, and a 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen extends from the roof on command, paired with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos. Automatic doors use radar-based technology - a first for any carmaker - for smoother, more precise operation than the older sensor-based systems. Standard driver assistance features include cruise control, an attentiveness assistant, and professional parking and reversing assistants, while the i7 adds active cruise control with Stop&Go, steering and lane control assist, and blind spot monitoring.
Colours & Finance
Exterior paint choices include Tanzanite Blue, Carbon Black, Mineral White, Oxide Grey, and Vancouver Green, with additional frozen paint finishes reserved for the i7 M70. BMW is also offering the new 7 Series and i7 under its Smart Finance programme, which includes an assured buyback option along with optional add-ons like Service Inclusive, BMW Secure, and Extended Warranty bundled into the finance plan.
Launch Pricing, Mercedes S-Class Rivalry, and Market Positioning
With the new 7 Series, BMW is giving buyers a genuine choice between a refined petrol flagship and an electric range that now leads its segment on range and charging speed, without asking anyone to compromise on the rear-seat experience that matters most to this segment’s buyers. At ₹.95 crore for the 740 M Sport and i7 50 xDrive, and ₹.65 crore for the M70, the range sits squarely against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and its EQS counterpart, and BMW’s local i7 production should help with delivery timelines compared to fully imported rivals.
