Hyundai Bayon Unveiled in India: Launch on October 26
Hyundai's Bayon gets a 1.5L petrol with 6MT or IVT, dual 12.3-inch screens and a generative AI voice assistant. Bookings are open at ₹1,000.

Hyundai Motor India has unveiled the India-spec Bayon, the SUV whose name it revealed last month, and confirmed that it will launch on October 26, 2026. Bookings are already open on Hyundai’s website and at dealerships for ₹1,000, with deliveries scheduled for the festive season. Hyundai is positioning the Bayon around technology rather than size or price, and the unveil covered its cabin tech and powertrain in detail while leaving design dimensions and pricing for the launch.
A 1.5-Litre Petrol With Manual or IVT
The Bayon uses Hyundai’s four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine, which makes 115 PS (84.4 kW) and 144 Nm. It’s offered with a 6-speed manual or Hyundai’s IVT, the brand’s continuously variable automatic. There’s no turbo-petrol or diesel option in the announcement, so the Bayon sits firmly on the naturally aspirated, easy-to-drive side of the compact SUV market.
Dual Curved Screens and a Generative AI Voice Assistant
The cabin centres on two 12.3-inch curved displays, one for the instrument cluster and one for infotainment, forming a single panoramic unit. They run Hyundai’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, accelerated by NVIDIA, which brings online navigation, split-screen functionality, a customisable quick control panel and individual user profiles.
The bigger talking point is Hyundai India’s first generative AI voice assistant, built on Perplexity’s intelligence with voice technology from SoundHound AI. Unlike conventional systems that recognise fixed commands, it’s designed to handle conversational requests, such as planning a road-trip itinerary, suggesting hotels or restaurants along the route, checking weather or pulling up sports scores. For basic vehicle functions, there are more than 500 embedded voice commands that work without an internet connection, in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu. The interface itself supports 10 regional and 2 international languages across the infotainment and cluster screens.
Over-the-Air Updates and Bluelink Connectivity
Up to 19 controllers on the Bayon can receive over-the-air updates, which means Hyundai can roll out software improvements and some feature updates without a dealership visit. Hyundai Bluelink adds more than 70 connected features, including remote start and stop, remote vehicle controls, smartphone and smartwatch connectivity, vehicle information, location services and security features.
What Hyundai Hasn’t Said Yet
Pricing, variant structure, dimensions, boot space, fuel efficiency, safety equipment and the full feature list by trim will only be confirmed at the October 26 launch. Hyundai hasn’t announced a competitor set either, though with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and a tech-led pitch, buyers shopping in the compact SUV space should wait for those details before committing elsewhere. We’ll publish a full breakdown once prices are out.
