Maruti Suzuki has launched the Baleno facelift in India at a starting price of Rs. 6.10 lakh, ex-showroom. As mid-lifecycle updates go, this one is more substantial than most, headlined by a new engine, an ADAS suite that’s a first for this hatchback, and a handful of feature additions aimed at keeping it competitive against the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20.
What’s Changed, and What Hasn’t
The most significant update is under the bonnet. The Baleno now uses the 1.2-litre Z Series three-cylinder petrol engine that already powers the Swift and the Dzire, in place of the outgoing four-cylinder unit. It’s offered with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT, and for the first time on this car, the factory-fit CNG kit can also be paired with the AMT rather than the manual gearbox alone. This shared-engine strategy should mean lower long-term maintenance costs, given how widely serviced the Z Series unit already is across Maruti’s dealer network.
Styling changes are concentrated up front. The grille has grown noticeably larger and now houses the radar module needed for the new ADAS features, with the Suzuki badge relocated above it rather than sitting within the grille itself. A redesigned bumper accommodates the bigger grille, along with reworked LED fog lamp housings. The 16-inch alloy wheels get a fresh design, and a shark fin antenna rounds off the rear. Headlamps and tail lamps carry over unchanged, and overall dimensions stay the same, with the Baleno still measuring 3,990mm in length on a 2,520mm wheelbase. Buyers also get a new Enigmatic Teal shade added to the colour palette.
Cabin, Space, and Everyday Usability
Inside, the layout is familiar territory for anyone who’s sat in the current Baleno: a nine-inch touchscreen, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and a three-spoke steering wheel. The genuine additions this time are ventilated front seats and a tyre pressure monitor, both new to the car, alongside Level 2 ADAS-based safety functions - a segment-relevant addition given rivals have been adding similar systems. Features that carry over include a height-adjustable driver seat, a wireless charger, a head-up display, automatic climate control, and a 360-degree camera, so the cabin doesn’t feel stripped down even with the mechanical changes elsewhere.
